Welcome to KC Woodworks!
Home of Custom-Made Mesquite Furniture

Who is KC? - After growing up in Southern Indiana, I joined the Air Force in 1979 and spent the better part of the next 10 years in San Antonio. I left the Air Force after three years in Las Vegas, and am now located in Seguin, Texas. I've been woodworking for close to 30 years.

KC’s Design Philosophy - I prefer a 'simple' style of furniture, and as time goes on, I appreciate the Shaker and Arts & Crafts/Mission designs more and more. I enjoy working with a variety of woods, but prefer cherry, walnut, or mesquite. Custom mesquite furniture has been my concentration for several years.

How I Do Business - If you’re interested in a truly custom piece, once we agree on a design, we’ll negotiate a price we’re both happy with. I may ask you for a deposit ...typically 25%. Then we’ll set a completion date, which will be the date I tell you it’ll be ready for delivery. If for whatever reason it’s not ready when I say it will be, I’ll invoke my ‘double your deposit back’ guarantee.*

I price things according to material costs and what I think is fair compensation for my labor ...depending on the piece. I don't use a standard hourly rate. I also won't charge a 'premium' for certain types of wood just because they're popular. As my cost goes up, the price will, too...but only by the added cost of the material.

When you do business with me, you know who's going to be building your furniture...not necessarily true with places that hire out jobs. The only way I can assure the quality of the finished product is to do it myself. I'm proud to sign each piece...and my name doesn't go on it until I'm satisfied it's something you'll be happy to have in your home.

About Mesquite - Mesquite is a very hard wood of exceptional beauty. The swirling grain, variety of color, and occasional character defects are what gives mesquite it's unique character. The heartwood ranges from a yellowish-brown to a deep reddish-brown, and develops a rich patina over time. Sapwood in mesquite is pale yellowish-white in color, and can serve as a striking design element. I strive to use only native Texas mesquite in my pieces.

*My ‘Double Your Deposit Back’ Guarantee - In the event a deposit is required, and I’m unable to deliver a finished product on the agreed upon date, I will credit your bill by twice the amount of your initial deposit.
